Heart with Wings Umbrella

This is the gift I made for :artisancraft: 'Christmas in August' giftswap. We were asked to make a gift and a giftbox for a randomly selected deviant. (Here is the box [link])

I only had the information from the person's devart page to try and figure out what they might like. She seemed to have a couple of this pretty heart-with-wings motif picture in her favourites so I thought I would try something with that.

The heart is red dupion (from queen of hearts dress) and white polyester lace machine appliqued onto the original umbrella base. Actually, not the original, because in making it I managed to bend a spoke in the wrong direction and break the whole thing off. So at the last minute I was digging through drawers trying to find an umbrella in the house that would fit into the box I had already made so I could re-use the frame. As a result its a bit of a pants frame.

The stiches made by the machine were re-sealed using fabsil waterproofing stuff so it really does function as an umbrella.

I didn't do anything to the handle so I have not bothered to include a photo.
